The city of New Orleans expanded legislation in 2024 to allow for more easily permissible 4-unit structures to be built in typically two-family residential zoned areas with the caveat that one unit be set aside as an affordable unit. After this announcement, studio^RISE was approached by this client to take an abnormal 4-bay double shotgun on an irregular lot and convert it from a two unit to a four unit structure. studio^RISE has worked with the city and HDLC to create an extended camelback design by utilizing the abnormal appendage and creating 3 units on the ground floor with an additional unit on the second floor.
