Originally conceived during EDR+’s Day of Service program, this project explores ways to maximize livable square footage within the dense urban fabric of New Orleans. Designed in response to the city’s newly defined zoning category for Small Multi-Family Affordable Units, the development consists of two ground-up new construction homes.

Each home contains two equal, fully separated units with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and are designed to reflect the scale, rhythm, and character of surrounding neighborhood’s architecture.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between Hotel Hope and Peoples Housing Plus, both based in New Orleans, and is currently in the fundraising stage. The long-term vision is for these designs, and others like them, to be readily available and easily adapted for sites throughout the city and will offer a replicable model to help address an ongoing housing crisis.

Final details, updates, and photography to come.
